Google launches Go search app in 26 African countries to beat slow Internet speeds

Google has released a new search app called Go in 26 African countries that would allow users to search the web faster, even with slow Internet connections.

According to Google, the new app reduces the amount of data needed to display search results by 40 percent and allows previous searches to be accessed offline. Also, users can enjoy the voice function while on a slow connection.

The company’s Chief Marketing Officer for Africa, Mzamo Masito told Bloomberg that the app can also work on basic 2G connections on the MTN and Vodacom networks.

The app, which will help internet users overcome obstacles such as the lack of high-speed connectivity and the cost of data on the continent is the latest attempt by the technology giant to extend its reach into emerging markets such as sub-Saharan Africa.
