Google launches its first cloud region in Africa
Google has established its cloud region in South Africa, the very first on the African continent, as part of a global network of 35 cloud regions and 106 zones globally.
The cloud regions are geographically distributed data centers that will provide secure, high-performance, local environments where public cloud resources will be stored.
The move to set up a cloud region in South Africa would enable businesses the flexibility to be mobile, build, and run their business workloads and cloud applications on the Google cloud platform while complying with regional data regulations.
Back in April 2020, South Africa became the first country in Africa to get the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud region.
