Google Maps is adding speed monitoring features to iOS and CarPlay
The speedometer and speed limits features have long been on Android devices and Android Auto.
Google Maps is finally adding "speedometer" and "speed limits" features to iOS and CarPlay to help iPhone users avoid speed ticketing while driving.
These features have long been offered on Android devices and Android Auto. They were introduced to Android in 2019 and, in May of the same year, were expanded to more than 40 countries after being limited to select markets.
Now, if you are an iPhone user, you will be able to see your vehicle's speed shown in miles or kilometers depending on your region once you start navigation on Google Maps.
You can turn on the speedometer and speed limits by tapping your profile picture on the Google Maps app on your iPhone, and then go to Settings > Navigation > Driving Options. Once enabled, the speed limits feature will change colors on the speed indicator to prompt you to drive within the speed limit set in your region.

This means that you will be able to easily monitor your driving speed without diverting your attention from the road, based on the real-time speed data provided.
Google has emphasized that the in-app speedometer is intended for informational purposes only, acknowledging that external factors may cause minor discrepancies between the app’s reading and the vehicle’s actual speed. Therefore, drivers should always rely on their vehicle’s speedometer for precise speed confirmation.
Google's reason for rolling out these features on iOS and CarPlay is simply to give iPhone users the same benefit that was formerly exclusive to Android users so that they do not incur speeding tickets while driving.

The software giant has also assured iPhone users that it is rolling out the features globally, with TechCrunch reporting that the new features have been sighted on Google Maps for iPhone users in India.
