Google Photos to Bring its Magic Editor to Android and iPhones For Free
But there's a catch.
Google Photos is about to get a whole lot more magical for everyone. Starting May 15, a suite of powerful editing tools previously reserved for Pixel phones will be free to use on almost any device with a Google account, including iPhones!
Highly sought-after features, like Magic Eraser which lets you remove unwanted objects from your photos like they were never there; Photo Unblur which sharpens images affected by motion blur, camera shake, or focus issues., and others will be accessible to all Google Photos users.
But there's a catch. Google is only offering a limited 10 free uses of the Magic Editor per month. If you want more editing magic, you have to either get yourself a Pixel or subscribe to the Google One premium plan which offers 2TB and above cloud storage.
The update also has some device hardware requirements. For Android and iPhone users, you would need at least the Android versions 8.0 and iOS 15 respectively. Additionally, the device must have at least 3GB of RAM. For Chromebook users, you will need a Chromebook Plus with ChromeOS 118+.
Other features coming to everyone include Photo Unblur, which sharpens blurry photos, and Portrait Light, which uses AI to create studio-quality lighting effects on your subjects.
The update will roll out gradually over a few weeks starting May 15 to all devices that meet these minimum requirements.
