Apps donning the badge means its users can submit requests to the developers to delete their account and associated data without having to reinstall a deleted app.

In a move to give users more control over their data, Google Play Store is making it easier than ever to clean up your digital footprint.

The Android app store has implemented a new account deletion policy for apps offering in-app accounts. Since late 2023, developers have been required to allow users to delete their accounts and associated data both within the app and through a web interface.

To help users find apps that have implemented its new policy, the Play Store is now rolling out a new "Account deletion available" badge. This badge appears in the Data Safety section of app listings, directly informing users about the app's data deletion practices.

Apps donning the badge means its users can submit requests to the developers to delete their account and associated data without having to reinstall a deleted app. They can even choose to delete only certain data without deleting the entire account. Developers who need to hold onto some data for legal reasons have to be upfront about it as well.

Although the deadline for developers to fully comply with Google's data deletion policy is still May 31, 2024, the new badge allows users to easily identify apps that prioritize data privacy directly from the Play Store listing.

Google noted that apps that don't offer clear and accessible account deletion options by the May 31st deadline risk facing "enforcement actions," including removal from the Play Store.

These changes empower users to take control of their app data and ensure developers are transparent about their data practices.

Simply check the "Account deletion available" badge when browsing the Play Store and use the provided deletion options to manage your app data with greater ease.
