Google Gemini Set to Expand with Powerful New Extensions
These new extensions ares set to bring a more seamless and efficient experience across different Google services.
From handling your calls to managing your homes and schedules, Gemini is about to become the go-to digital assistant for everything as Google readies several new extensions for the AI chatbot to connect to other platforms.
Already supporting several extensions for popular services like Flights, Hotels, Maps, Workspace, YouTube, and YouTube Music, Google is bringing even more extensions to its AI Gemini, significantly expanding its capabilities.
A recent APK teardown by Android Authority of the latest Google app beta revealed clues about six upcoming extensions, half of which have not been announced.
One of the most promising new extensions is the Phone extension. This will allow Gemini to handle phone calls directly. This means that commands like “Call [insert name here]” will be executed by Gemini, not Google Assistant. It is still largely unclear what else this extension could do, however, it is sure to provide a more seamless and efficient call experience.
Another exciting addition is the Utilities extension. It appears to be designed to give Gemini control over various phone settings and apps. This could mean anything from taking photos and launching apps to adjusting volume, and potentially even more complex actions like locking your phone or switching to dark mode.
The Google Home is also another intriguing addition, letting you control your smart home devices with simple voice commands to Gemini, bypassing the need for Google Assistant altogether.
While these three are brand new, there are also strong hints of extensions for Google Calendar, Keep, and Tasks. These were previously announced at Google I/O 2024, and the recent findings confirm that they're still in the works. It’s not yet clear whether these will be standalone extensions or integrated into the existing Workspace extension.
It is important to note that not all of these extensions may eventually be released. However, the potential is undeniable bringing a more seamless and efficient experience across different Google services. These upcoming extensions paint a picture of a future where Gemini becomes an even more integral part of our daily lives.
