Grok AI now has a web platform, with a cool incognito mode feature
It's free, and you don't need to have an X account to use it.
Elon Musk has been working overtime to push Grok, his AI company xAI's chatbot, as a competitor to established players like ChatGPT and Gemini.
After releasing an iOS app for the chatbot last week, the company has taken the wraps off a new web version available at Grok.com (in the U.S.), which doesn’t force you to use an X account but allows users to sign up or log in easily using their email, Gmail or their X account. It also retains key features, such as real-time information gathering, question answering, and image generation, meaning web users won't miss out on anything.
Naturally, the Grok web app gives room for customization, allowing users to choose between the usual light, dark, or system themes, to enhance user experience.
The standout feature for me is the “Temporary Chat” feature (just like in ChatGPT) which functions much like the incognito mode on a web browser. Conversations in this mode are not permanently stored and won't appear in your history or be used for model training, but Grok may securely retain it for up to 30 days for safety purposes.
With this move, Grok is steadily positioning itself as a contender in the competitive AI landscape. While ChatGPT dominates the market with a reported 69.9% of subscription sales, Grok is taking deliberate steps to carve its niche. The lack of a native Android app may still leave some users waiting, but the web version signals xAI’s commitment to accessibility and growth.
As Grok evolves, its goal is clear: to become a standalone entity capable of competing with AI giants or even establishing its unique space for itself in the market.
