Here are the most-streamed artists globally in 2024 on Spotify
The wait is over—Spotify Wrapped 2024 is finally here, offering music fans the ultimate nostalgia trip by recapping their year in music. It’s like unwrapping a gift box packed with your favourite memories.
But this year, Spotify didn’t stop at the usual stats. It brought in fresh features, celebrated global creativity, and added surprising twists that have sparked just as much debate as delight.
For starters, this year’s Wrapped came with an AI-powered podcast, a custom-made chat hosted by virtual personalities breaking down your music taste. On top of that, Wrapped also updates to Spotify’s AI DJ and playlists, to make its year-end recap smarter and more fun.
All of this however didn't strike home with many users, with many lashing out about the lack of many personality-defining metrics that had previously defined Wrapped. Some even complain of hallucinated artists' stats, songs they've never heard appearing in most listened lists, and more.
But, despite Wrapped delivering a rather underwhelming individual recap, Wrapped still made sure to show a heartfelt tribute to the artists, genres, and trends that made 2024 unforgettable globally.
This year saw some unexpected breakthroughs: pop stars like Chappell Roan and Sabrina Carpenter skyrocketed to fame. Let’s talk about how country music crossed over in a big way, led by Beyoncé, Shaboozey, Post Malone, and Lana Del Rey. Even indie gems like Clairo and The Marías turned critical acclaim into streaming success.
But at the helm of it all was Taylor Swift, Spotify’s Global Top Artist for 2024, with a jaw-dropping 26.6 billion streams, once again proving she’s in a league of her own. Taylor’s music wasn’t just listened to—it became a way of life for her fans. As a special tribute, Spotify added a first-ever badge to her artist profile. The Weekend, Kanye West, Bad Bunny, and Travis Scott were other top charting artists in the year.
If Taylor owned the artist charts, Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso” took over as the year’s most-streamed song. Close behind were Billie Eilish’s cinematic “BIRDS OF A FEATHER” and the viral hit “Lose Control” by Teddy Swims. Meanwhile, “Die With A Smile” by Bruno Mars, Lady Gaga didn’t just dominate streams—it was the song most shared on social media, proving that fans couldn’t get enough of its emotional punch.
Most of those songs were some of the most-viral songs globally too capturing hearts and timelines and dominating social platforms. Perhaps the most notable diss song of this generation–“Not Like Us” by Kendrick Lamar –was also a viral sound.
Looking at top albums, female artists led a major shift in the industry this year. Women claimed eight of the top 10 album spots, a feat that underscores their growing influence across genres. Billie Eilish’s HIT ME HARD AND SOFT and Ariana Grande’s eternal sunshine joined Taylor’s multiple albums on the global charts, showing that emotional vulnerability and bold storytelling resonate universally.
The podcast scene also exploded in 2024, with over half a billion listeners engaging with shows on Spotify. From The "Joe Rogan Experience" to "Crime Junkie," podcasts continued to dominate commutes, workouts, and downtime. But the real surprise? Video podcasts are on the rise, with 300,000+ titles streaming globally, redefining how audiences consume content.
Spotify didn’t stop at music and podcasts. This year marked the first-ever Global Top Audiobooks list, led by Sarah J. Maas’s A Court of Thorns and Roses. Other classics like The Fellowship of the Ring and Jennette McCurdy’s memoir I’m Glad My Mom Died also found big audiences.
2024 wasn’t just about listening—it was about sharing. Songs like “Good Luck, Babe!” by Chappell Roan and “Too Sweet” by Hozier topped viral charts, showing that music isn’t just heard; it’s felt, discussed, and celebrated. And with TikTok and Spotify teaming up, Wrapped results flooded For You Pages, sparking conversations about everything from niche indie anthems to global pop hits.
Spotify Wrapped 2024 is more than a recap—it’s a celebration of how music brings us together. Whether you’re a Swiftie, a podcast aficionado, or an audiobook enthusiast, this year’s Wrapped highlights the power of sound to connect people across cultures, genres, and generations. So, as you scroll through your personalized recap, take a moment to celebrate the artists, trends, and stories that made your 2024 one for the books. What’s your Wrapped reveal this year?
