This week's investments highlight the growing interest and confidence in Latin American startups across various sectors.
- Despegar, a leading Latin American online travel agency will be acquired by Prosus NV, a Dutch technology investor, for approximately $1.7 billion in cash. Founded in Argentina in 1999, Despegar, which operates in more than 19 Latin American markets, is one of Latin America's largest online tourism platforms. The deal is expected to close in the second quarter of 2025.
- Yourney, a Chilean talent development startup raised $1.6 million in a funding round led by Invexor. The online coaching platform provides personalized development sessions for employees and actionable progress insights for HR teams and organizational leaders. The funds will help enhance sales efforts and support expansion into Chile, Mexico, and Europe.
- Konfío, a leading Mexican fintech unicorn dedicated to supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), secured MX$7.42 billion (approximately US$362 million) in financing from Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan Chase, and Afore Sura Mexico. The funding will enable Konfío to continue offering working capital loans and expand its credit offerings to support more businesses.
- Airbag, a Mexican startup specializing in reducing fleet accidents for transportation companies, secured a $750,000 bridge round, led by Impacta VC, Grupo Flecha Amarilla, Carabela Ventures, and angel investors, bringing Airbag's total funding to over $1.5 million. With the new funding, Airbag plans to enhance its platform and accelerate customer growth.
