Instagram might release its own new AI editing tool in 2025
Instagram has been on a roll lately, dishing out updates left and right to make things easier for creators to connect and create with their followers, no matter how large or small.
From updates to its Broadcast Channels to test-running reels and even scheduling DMs, Instagram appears to have been thinking about its creators a lot. Now, rumours have it that Meta may be looking to give creators more control over their content, harnessing the power of AI.
The possibilities are exciting. With this tool, creators could change outfits mid-shot, switch the background to a snowy landscape, or even transform into a puppet-like version of themselves—all without needing any real video editing skill.
This ability to make seamless adjustments with just a text prompt is a great lifeline for creators who want to experiment with fresh ideas but don't have the time or expertise to master complex editing software.
While this feature isn't entirely new to the tech world—AI-driven video editing tools like Runway and Descript are already available—Meta's version could be more accessible and user-friendly. Since it would be integrated directly into the Instagram app, unlike other tools, users may not have to open a separate tab to edit videos.
Since there's nothing to go off of, it's still uncertain how this tool will be implemented exactly, but it'll be fun to see.
This feature does raise several concerns regarding the ongoing issues surrounding AI-generated content. Platforms like YouTube and Meta's Facebook have recently faced challenges with such content and have developed strategies to address it. YouTube has already introduced tools integrated into its copyright system, while Meta has implemented labels for AI-generated content on its platforms. It’s expected that Meta will adopt a similar approach when this new tool becomes available on Instagram.
Either way, this would be a fun new tool for Instagram's over 25 million brand accounts, per Brandwatch or just a great toy for one of the over 2.1 billion active users on the platform.
