Instagram now allows users to add multiple audio tracks to Reels
The new multitrack audio feature offers creators expanded creative flexibility on the platform.
Instagram has dropped a major update allowing users to add up to 20 audio tracks to a single Reel, as a way to offer creators expanded creative flexibility on the platform.
With this update, you can add different sounds to specific moments in your video or transition between music tracks as your scene changes. You no longer need third-party editing apps to add multiple audio of your choice to your video, making the creative process faster within the app.
This aligns with Instagram’s recent focus shift from long-form videos to shorter, more interactive content. Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, explained that long-form videos do not bring the same level of interaction among users. By contrast, short-form content like Reels encourages users to engage more frequently and share with friends, maintaining the platform’s core identity of connecting people.
Instagram Reels first appeared in 2019, drawing inspiration from TikTok, and have since become a staple for its over 2 billion active monthly users. With this new multitrack audio feature, creators can easily produce more engaging content.
So, the next time you're crafting a Reel, tap that “Add to mix” button and experiment with multiple audio tracks.
