Interest in TikTok Acquisition Surges Amid US Ban Threat
Competitors like Snap, Meta, and Google's parent Alphabet are ready to capitalize on this.
As the Congress mulls over a potential ban on TikTok in the US, several high-profile figures and companies have expressed interest in acquiring the popular social media platform.
Former Treasury Secretary of the US Steven Mnuchin, in a recent interview, indicated his interest in buying TikTok should its parent company ByteDance Ltd., decide to sell. Reports have also surfaced of interest from Rumble CEO Chris Pavlovski and Bobby Kotick, former CEO of Activision, who is exploring avenues to acquire TikTok alongside potential partners, including OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.
However, uncertainties loom large, with ByteDance's willingness to sell and geopolitical tensions complicating negotiations. Meanwhile, competitors like Snap, Meta, and Google's parent Alphabet stand ready to capitalize on any disruption.
