Kukua, a Kenya and London-based educational entertainment startup that created the first African animated superhero franchise, tagged 'Super Sema' has raised $6 million in its Series A funding round.

  • The fund will be invested in building IP-focused edutainment for children through the new Super Sema original content, licensing, merchandising, and publishing.
  • Founded in 2018, Kukua is built on the idea of an animated superhero franchise, especially for children in Africa.
  • Tencent and Alchimia co-led the funding round, with participation from EchoVC, Firstminute Capital, and Auxxo Female Catalyst.
  • The startup last raised a $2.5 million seed round from EchoVC in 2018.
