How LEGO Foundation is funding innovative solutions for child development

The LEGO Foundation has announced the recipients of its Build a World of Play Challenge, which aims to fund innovative solutions focused on early childhood development.

LEGO Foundation will grant DKK 200 million ($28.4 million) each to three organizations and DKK 100 million ($14.2 million) each to two others to fund solutions focused on early childhood development.

The five awardees will receive this grant to support their efforts to improve the lives of children from birth to six years old and inspire a global movement to prioritize early childhood development.

These solutions, which promote the well-being of children and their communities, will be implemented using culturally relevant and sustainable approaches. The awardees include:

  • The Akili Family project, run by Ubongo International, will air educational entertainment programs in African languages on TV, radio, and digital platforms to support at-home learning through play for children and caregivers.
  • Impact and Innovations Development Centre and partners will focus on positive parenting and non-violent discipline to empower children in Ugandan communities.
  • Clinton Health Access Initiative will provide early assistive technology to disabled children in eight countries.
  • IRD Global will build ecosystems for early childhood development in rural South Africa
  • The Johns Hopkins Center for Indigenous Health and partners will scale culture-based home education and intergenerational playspaces for Indigenous children and families.
