As one of the best OLED TVs of last year’s Consumer Electronic Show known for its Micro Lens Array technology, the LG G4 OLED TV boasts improved peak brightness compared to standard OLED panels, making it a strong contender in display quality and viewing experience.

But how does it compare to the new iteration, the LG G5 OLED TV showcased at CES 2025? And more importantly, should you upgrade if you already own the G4?

In this article, we’ll explore the key differences between these two models, from their display technologies and performance upgrades to design refinements and additional features to help you decide which of these OLED TVs deserves a spot in your living room.

#1. Display

When it comes to OLED TVs, we expect perfect blacks, infinite contrast, and vivid colors and both LG G4 and G5 deliver all of this, but the G5 takes things to another level.

With its Brightness Booster Ultimate technology, the G5 achieves peak brightness levels of over 2,500 nits—that’s three times brighter than standard OLEDs and a significant leap from the G4’s 1,800 nits. Imagine watching your favorite action movie or a bright outdoor scene during the day without squinting to see the details. The G5 ensures no detail is lost, no matter how bright your surroundings are.

The G4, with its Micro Lens Array, is still no slouch. Its brightness levels and clarity are excellent, making it a fantastic choice for most rooms. But if you’re chasing the ultimate HDR experience, the G5 might have you hooked.

#2. Panel

Here the G5 flexes its muscles, introducing a four-stack OLED Evo panel—a big step forward in OLED performance. This new panel design not only improves brightness but also enhances efficiency and durability.

The G4’s Micro Lens Array was a game-changer in its time, reducing reflections and boosting clarity. But compared to the advanced architecture of the G5, it’s like comparing a great book to its sequel that’s just a little more refined and gripping.
