The personal computing devices market in MEA experienced a sharp decline in Q4 2022

The Middle East and Africa (MEA) personal computing devices (PCD) market saw a significant year-on-year decline in Q4 2022, with shipments totalling 5.2 million units, according to a report by International Data Corporation (IDC). The report states that the PCD shipments were down 23.6% YoY.

The decline was attributed to the high volume of shipments in the corresponding quarter of 2021 after supply shortages hampered the market for most of the year. All countries in the region, except Turkey and Ethiopia, experienced YoY declines in PCD shipments in Q4 2022. The most significant decreases were observed in South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Israel, and Egypt.

PC shipments saw a YoY decline of 29.0% in Q4 2022. The top vendors – HP, Lenovo, and Dell – experienced sharp declines. HP Inc. regained the top spot, overtaking Lenovo by a narrow margin, while Dell ranked third.

Fouad Charakla, IDC's associate research director for client devices in the Middle East, Turkey, and Africa, attributed the stark nature of the decline to the sudden availability of PCs in Q4 2021, which followed supply shortages that had hindered the market for much of the year.

Charakla added that the region's PCD market is expected to recover in H1 2023.
