Meta continues to step up its AI game. Just a few months ago, it rolled out voice support for its AI chatbot in WhatsApp, putting the platform in direct competition with AI tools like OpenAI's ChatGPT and Microsoft's Copilot, which is also integrated into the messaging platform.

Now, Meta might be exploring a chat memory feature designed to give conversations a more personalized feel.

Spotted in the WhatsApp beta for Android (version 2.24.22.9) by WaBetaInfo, this feature will allow Meta AI to remember specific details about users, such as their food preferences, birthdays, or preferred conversation style.

By bridging the gap between spoken language and artificial intelligence, this feature could forever change the way we interact with technology.

The memory feature aims to offer more tailored and meaningful responses over time. For example, if you're vegan, the AI will adjust its food recommendations accordingly, making interactions feel more customized.

This level of personalization is a step ahead of most current chatbots, including OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which does not yet offer memory across conversations without direct user prompts, though there are rumours it may introduce something similar. Meta’s ambition with WhatsApp’s AI seems focused on providing deeper, continuous customization.

However, it’s crucial to note that Meta has not officially confirmed the details of this feature. It’s still under development and was only spotted in the beta release, meaning the final version may evolve, and there is no firm timeline for its public rollout.

That said, reports further suggest that the memory will be stored in a new section of the Meta AI contact card, giving users control over what the AI remembers, with options to update or delete information at any time.

This feature could arrive amid Meta’s broader push for AI across its platforms. Just recently, the company expanded Meta AI to new countries, including the UK, Brazil, and the Philippines.

As Meta continues to refine its AI strategy, this potential enhancement in WhatsApp could position the platform as a frontrunner in personalized AI interactions, offering users a more assistant-like experience. By blending memory with responsiveness, Meta AI may soon transform everyday conversations into highly personalized exchanges.
