Meta Wants to Make the Quest VR Headsets a Learning Tool in Schools
Meta sees VR headsets as the future of education and plans to make them more affordable and accessible to teachers and students soon.
Meta is planning to make its Quest VR headsets a learning tool in schools so teachers can have an immersive teaching experience with students aged 13 and above.
This move comes after educators informed Meta that they needed such a product to provide an immersive experience for students, as they believe that VR and the metaverse could eventually be game-changers for hands-on learning.
In response to the demand, Meta has said that it would make available a suite of visually engrossing education apps and allow teachers to manage multiple Quest devices simultaneously, without needing each device to be individually prepared and updated.
The tech giant began tryouts last year by supplying VR equipment and resources to 15 U.S. universities for use in training nurses, teaching languages, and helping business students learn soft skills like interviewing.
According to a report by The Verge, Meta has sold nearly 20 million Quest headsets, including Quest 1, Quest 2, and Quest Pro, with Quest 2 being the vast majority.
Meta estimates that this figure would have to increase a lot if teachers globally were to use this equipment in classrooms to educate students. Presently, the plan is still in the works as the tech giant invests more money to improve the technology and make it more suitable for education.
