Meta's X (Twitter) rival, Threads, adds new features for enhanced user experience

Threads, Meta's answer to X (formerly Twitter), is making waves again. From its record-breaking launch as the fastest-growing platform ever to now boasting 200 million monthly active users in just 13 months, Threads has come a long way in a short time. To mark its web version's first anniversary, it's rolling out new features to enhance user experience.

A key update expands Threads' draft functionality. The feature, which was first tested in February and launched in March, now lets users save up to 100 unfinished posts. This feature will give content creators more flexibility to refine their thoughts before sharing.

Threads is also introducing a new audience insights tool. The Insights screen shows users the demographics of viewers and engagers, including age, gender, and location. It also displays total views and interactions, separated by followers and non-followers. This data-driven approach could significantly impact content strategy for influencers and brands.

Desktop users aren't left out either. The TweetDeck-like multicolumn interface, first introduced in May, allows users to pin searches, liked posts, activity, saved posts, the profile page, and insights. Now, users can also rearrange these columns in different orders, except for the "For You" column, which remains fixed as the first column on the left side.

Additionally, Threads is testing a multi-feed experience on iOS with select users, though it’s unclear if users will be able to reorder these feeds, says TechCrunch. Both the Insights screen and column rearrangement have been available to some users for the past few weeks.

These feature updates, along with Threads' recent API launch, demonstrate Meta's ongoing efforts to improve the platform and position it as a key player in the social media space.

Looking ahead, Mark Zuckerberg has hinted at more features, including post-scheduling. One thing’s clear, though: Threads is evolving from a quick response to X into a robust platform in its own right.
