Microsoft Faces Criticism For Censoring Bing in China
Microsoft could become the third major tech giant following Google and Yahoo to cease internet operations in China amid growing criticisms from the US.
Software giant, Microsoft is currently under fire from US officials over Bing's compliance with Chinese censorship demands.
Florida Senator Marco Rubio is the latest US official raising concerns about the company removing sensitive information such as human rights, democracy, and climate change from its Bing Search Engine to satisfy the demands of the Chinese government.
He further stated that most companies that choose to do business in China usually find themselves bending to the whims and caprices of the country’s authoritarian regime, allowing them to achieve their goal of overpowering the US.
Microsoft has since defended its position, claiming that Bing in China is the least censored search engine that provides access to information. Despite these assertions, the software giant remains under pressure to leave the country just like Google and Yahoo did in 2010.
