If you use a Mac, you’ve probably been feeling left out for a while now, considering how Microsoft's Copilot launched on other platforms and excluded Mac. Well, it seems they’ve finally considered you their target audience and given macOS a dedicated Copilot app.

For those who haven’t been keeping up, Copilot is Microsoft’s AI-powered assistant, kind of like ChatGPT but with deeper Microsoft integration. It has been available on browsers and mobile devices for a while, but now Mac users get their native app, no more running to Safari or Chrome just to get some AI help.

With Copilot on macOS, you can now easily draft emails, summarize lengthy documents, brainstorm ideas, and do every other thing you do with your AI assistant, all from the dedicated app on your Mac. No more keeping a browser tab open just to access Copilot—so, go ahead and close that tab.

To make it feel more integral and natural, it comes with a handy “Command + Space” shortcut, making it feel more like an actual part of your Mac rather than an afterthought.

OpenAI’s new GPT-4.5 model is here—and it’s more human than ever
The company is touting the new system as its largest and best model for chat yet.

Now, there’s a small catch, Copilot won’t work on just any Mac. You’ll need macOS 14.0 or later and a machine running at least an M1 chip. If you’re still using an Intel-based Mac, well, Microsoft unfortunately doesn't consider you good enough for them.

Microsoft is feeling generous. All users now get unlimited access to Copilot’s Voice and Think Deeper features. Voice lets you have actual conversations with the AI, while Think Deeper taps into OpenAI’s o1 model to tackle more complex queries.

It’s interesting to see Microsoft playing nice with Apple, considering how long it took to bring Copilot to macOS. But with AI becoming such a major battleground, it’s clear that Microsoft isn’t about to let Apple have all the fun with Siri’s upcoming AI enhancements.

So, Mac users, it's your turn to try out Copilot. Was it worth the wait?
