Mobile coverage to be restored in Sudan after two months of Internet blackout
Starlink has become essential for the Sudanese to stay afloat during the internet blackout.
Recent reports have indicated that the services of mobile network operators (MNOs) in Sudan are gradually recovering after two months of Internet shutdown.
The blackout, sparked by clashes between military and paramilitary groups has plunged nearly 49 million Sudanese into a communication crisis.
With the usual mobile connections down, some of its citizens have turned to alternative solutions like satellite internet service Starlink, despite not being officially licensed in the country. But this option isn't widely available due to its cost and technical requirements.
Local mobile network operators like Sudani and Zain are working hard to get things back to normal but the damage caused by the conflict was extensive, affecting cell towers and the electricity grid.
With the importation of telecommunications equipment approved, the Sudanese government expects the country to get back on its feet soon.
