MTN is facing a lawsuit in Eswatini over Internet blackouts

South African telecom operator, MTN has reportedly been sued in Eswatini by a group of lawyers, according to local media reports, after the company's unit in Eswatini allegedly cut off its customer's access to the Internet on June 29, following a government directive.

Eswatini (formerly Swaziland), a small landlocked kingdom in southern Africa, bounded by South Africa and Mozambique, with a population (2015 est.) of 1.3 million, shutdown Internet access in the country, amid violent pro-democracy protests against the government.

Earlier, the telco confirmed that it was experiencing disruption to its services and connectivity in Eswatini, amid violent pro-democracy protests, in a statement by MTN eSwatini's CEO Wandile Mtshali.
