NALA integrates Apple Pay and Google Pay to allow African diaspora users to make local payments

NALA, a Tanzanian-born fintech startup with a growing dominance in East Africa, has integrated Apple Pay and Google Pay into the platform allowing its African diaspora users to make local payments directly.

  • The integration with these payment platforms comes a few months after it launched its operations in the United States at the end of April 2022 and had 6 members of Parliament from Tanzania in attendance at their launch event in New York City.
  • With over 70 million users of Apple Pay and Google Pay in the United States alone, and their long-established usage in nations where NALA’s users are located, the integration will provide a seamless, stress-free, option for diaspora African users to make payments to more than 300 banks and 20 mobile money providers in Africa.
  • This is a ground-breaking move in the continent’s fintech industry, with only a few African fintech companies – such as Paystack in Nigeria and Peach Payments in South Africa – having so far been able to include Apple Pay in their offerings.
