Netflix rolls out Moments on iOS, letting you share clips from favorite shows
If, like me, you’re someone who loves rewatching or sharing memorable scenes on Netflix, you know the frustration of trying to capture those moments since the platform restricts screenshots or screen recordings.
Now, Netflix’s new feature, Moments, aims to make that process easier by allowing viewers to save and revisit specific scenes directly from the mobile app.
Launched first on iOS and expected to roll out on Android soon, users can access the feature by tapping the Moments button at the bottom of the screen when a noteworthy scene plays, and it will save directly to your My Netflix tab.
According to Netflix, this tab allows you to revisit your favorite scenes anytime and playback even starts right from the saved scene whenever you reopen the episode or movie. Users can also take a step further and share links to their favorite clips to Instagram, Facebook, and other platforms instantly.
The timing of Moments is also significant, as Netflix explores new ways to engage its 282 million subscribers–up from 270 million in Q1 2024 as reported earlier by Techloy–in a competitive streaming space.
According to recent data from TechCrunch, Netflix gained 5.1 million new subscribers in Q3 2024, following an even larger increase of 8 million in the previous quarter.
However, the slightly lower growth hints at a plateau, which Netflix seems to be addressing with features like Moments and efforts to limit password sharing. This feature also parallels social sharing tools long available on platforms like YouTube and Twitch, reflecting Netflix’s efforts to foster more organic engagement.
Though future enhancements to Moments haven’t been disclosed, there’s speculation about potential expansions that could give users more ways to interact with their favorite content.
As streaming platforms innovate to retain audiences, Moments could become a central tool for Netflix to deepen viewer connection, allowing fans, like me, to share and relive content in new, dynamic ways.
