I have always looked at crypto as an option that will hit me only because it has gotten so mainstream, so acceptable, it would be a no-brainer not to begin to engage in it. This perspective on crypto adoption is a luxury.
When I’ve encountered those people in movies who choose crypto or gift cards as a preferred option for transactions to avoid being traced, I wonder why anyone would want to live like this.
This year it began to make sense. With the rise of traditional banks unbanking customers over political views, strange new tax bills, and draconian government surveillance systems, many would rather opt for a technology that gives them full autonomy where their transactions and earnings are untraceable by the government.
In Lebanon this is the case. As Israel’s war with the country continues, activists have opted for gift cards to accept donations, many coming from abroad. This is, of course, not the first time. During the Nigerian EndSARS protest, that also was the case. This trend scoffs at any current and future doubter about the future of blockchain technology going mainstream.
It is now only a matter of time.
