Will HarmonyOS Next bring an end to the duopoly?

When I think about a company that makes lemonade from the lemons thrown at it, Huawei comes to mind. Despite being blocked in the U.S. and other markets, it is steadily making boss moves.

If you're still not thrilled by its world's-first tri-fold phone, then wait for when its phones will run purely on its operating system Harmony OS Next, sans Android. We even heard that it's happening in 2025. By going all-in on the Harmony OS, the Chinese tech giant is setting up a future where we could potentially see an end to the duopoly of Android and iOS.

Of course, this could take years, as the adoption of a new OS by developers who build apps on top takes time. Android, first released in 2008, now boasts 2.87 million apps, as of 2024, while iOS, first released in 2007, now boasts 3.8 million, as of Dec 2023.

Still, I didn't think that we could see a world where another operating system will challenge the market leaders. So, my question is: what would make you switch to Harmony OS Next?
