Playing Santa with 12 days of AI goodness
Is this OpenAI’s way of offering more accessible options for its users and content creators?
It’s not every day you see OpenAI playing Santa, but the 12 Days of OpenAI event is here and packed with lots of surprises.
Kicking off the event, the tech giant announced its most expensive plan yet, ChatGPT Pro at a whooping $200/month tag which will give you unlimited access to GPT-4o, Advanced Voice Mode, and an exclusive version of o1 promising better reasoning on complex tasks.
Following that, it debuted Canvas, a tool designed to help users refine lengthy texts or code with greater ease. While this brings a new level of convenience, similar functionality is already offered by Notion AI for text and by GitHub Copilot for code—though neither combines the two quite like ChatGPT does.
But, the most striking announcement yet is the launch of Sora, OpenAI’s text-to-video AI model which allows users to create high-quality videos, rivaling Runway’s Gen-3 and Meta’s MovieGen.
When all is said and done, the question remains whether this lineup makes OpenAI the hero of your holiday tech wish list, or are just stocking stuffers compared to what others offer.
Until next week!
