Gemini AI may be coming to an iPhone near you

Whether or not we would see Google's Gemini AI powering the iPhone in the future could prove one thing: that AI is a must for every smartphone.

The Google-Apple relationship hasn't exactly been a cozy one, cue the blue-green iMessage bubble squabble that's been going on for a while.

But when reports surfaced that Apple was engaging in talks with its arch-rival, Google, about integrating Google's Gemini AI into the iPhone, it reminded me of how Plankton invited Mr Krabs over to ask for the secret recipe for the Krabby Patty in the animated adventure comedy movie, The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie.

Although Apple has an AI model for instruction-based image editing, and AI powers several of its features such as Siri and Face ID, the report suggests that the Cupertino giant's internal AI efforts may be faltering, which could see it cozying up to potential partnerships with third-party AI technologies.

While this may never happen, the thought of Siri and other iPhone products being powered by Google's AI sounds cringy. Just imagine Google's presence on the iPhone, just like its handprints are all over Samsung's recently introduced Galaxy AI.

Whether or not we would see Google's Gemini AI powering the iPhone in the future could prove one thing: that AI is a must for every smartphone.

Until next week,

– Emmanuel
