The satellite internet race is on

We can expect faster, more affordable internet, and perhaps even a new era of satellite internet options.

With China officially taking the wraps off its shiny new toy, the race for global satellite internet domination has just gotten a whole lot more interesting.

Its first batch of low earth orbit (LEO) satellites went up in the sky in an attempt to provide affordable high-speed internet access via satellite and rival SpaceX's Starlink, which has been leading the charge in satellite internet services and has fairly robust coverage with 5,500 LEO satellites already in orbit.

While Elon Musk's venture has a significant head start, the Beijing state-backed project is no slouch, with projections to catch up soon in what appears to be the beginning of an epic space race that has far-reaching significance for consumers, especially users living in remote locations.

We can expect faster, more affordable internet, and perhaps even a new era of satellite internet options.
