Opera integrates Google's Gemini AI into its web browser

Web browser, Opera, is taking its AI game to the next level by integrating Google's powerful Gemini AI models into its built-in AI assistant, Aria.

Previously relying only on OpenAI's large language models (LLMs), this collaboration expands on Opera's range of AI integrations to include Google's Gemini AI models, giving users the best of both worlds.

Now Opera's Composer AI engine will act as a conductor, choosing between OpenAI and Gemini models based on the user's query. This promises a smarter Aria, delivering the most relevant and up-to-date information at high speed.

The Google partnership particularly unlocks new feature capabilities including free image generation and conversational text-to-speech for Aria as part of its AI Feature Drop program.

The image generation feature is powered by Google's Imagen 2 model allowing users to generate images from text prompts. For instance, a user request asking Aria to "make an image of a dog on vacation at a beach having a drink," generated the image below.

Additionally, Aria can read out responses in a conversational tone using Google's text-to-audio model.

These features are currently in testing within the Opera One Developer version. If all goes well, they could be rolled out to all Opera users with potential improvements based on early adopter feedback.

This collaboration positions Opera as a frontrunner in browser AI integration, offering users a powerful and versatile AI assistant experience.
