PC shipments into the Middle East & Africa region to decline in 2023
According to global technology research and consulting firm, IDC, the Middle East and Africa (MEA) personal computing devices (PCD) market which is made up of desktops, notebooks, workstations, and tablets, is expected to make an 18.9% year on year decline in the first quarter of 2023.
International Data Corporation (IDC) forecasts that a total of 4.8 million units will be shipped across the region in Q1 2023, and a total of 7.6 million units will be shipped throughout the year, reflecting a 10.9% year-on-year decrease. Shipment is expected to continue reducing to pre-pandemic levels through 2023.
According to the industry analysis, PCD shipments to most countries across the region including major markets like South Africa, the UAE, Israel, and Turkey are expected to decline due to a general slowdown in demand.
The falling exchange rate of local currencies against the US dollar in countries such as Egypt, Pakistan, Nigeria, and Turkey which has led to increased import costs, is also expected to negatively impact demand. Despite these challenges, Pakistan and Egypt are expected to receive massive education deals, while a large government deal is expected to be delivered in Nigeria.
