Pixel 9 and Galaxy S25 get Gemini Live’s new camera and screen-sharing features
This means you’re no longer stuck uploading static images or trying to describe what you see.
From being able to respond to voice commands and photos to now seeing the world through your camera or screen, Gemini has come a long way.
It all started with a demo last May at Google I/O, when Project Astra was introduced as a vision for AI that could understand not just language but the world around you. Back then, it felt futuristic; now, it’s starting to land on actual phones through Gemini Live.
Gemini Live is already rolling out camera and screen sharing support for Pixel 9 and Galaxy S25 devices. This means you’re no longer stuck uploading static images or trying to describe what you see.
Until now, Gemini has mostly handled voice prompts and, more recently, file uploads. Useful, sure, but it wasn’t live. Now, with real-time screen and camera sharing, it feels a lot more like an assistant that’s right there with you. Google stay, it’s handy for shopping help, getting suggestions on how to declutter ot fixing something, or even getting outfit feedback when your friends aren’t replying.
The rollout began in March and is now expanding. For Pixel 9 and Galaxy S25 users, the feature comes at no extra cost, though it’s unclear if it's a true freebie or a part of the promotional Gemini Advanced trial for Samsung users. For other Android users, though, access still seems tied to the $19.99/month Gemini Advanced plan, and Google says broader rollout is on the way.
This launch is another step in Google’s push toward visual AI, joining the ranks of tools like Apple’s Visual Intelligence and Microsoft's Copilot Vision. And with Gemini increasingly embedded in Samsung’s and Google’s flagship phones, it’s clear both companies see these assistants as trying to build full-on AI companions rather than just chatbots.
Of course, this kind of feature raises some questions—especially around privacy and how much of your screen Gemini can actually see, Still, the potential here is obvious, this isn’t just AI that talks, it’s AI that watches and responds, turning your phone into something a little more interactive and a lot more helpful.
So yeah, it started as a flashy idea on a stage. But now it is becoming a gimmick that rolling out to real people on real phones.
