Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2024: The Biggest Announcements

The Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event has finally taken place, and this time around, we got to see exciting product announcements that would usher us into the next phase of immersive technology.

Two standout features from the event this year were AI and health tracking. The Galaxy AI capabilities were integrated into Samsung's foldable phones, while the health tracking feature was integrated into the Galaxy Ring, which made its official debut at the event.

As the event unfolds, let's take a closer look at the biggest announcements that have been made so far.

The Galaxy Z Fold 6 and the Galaxy Flip 6 had some minor improvements that were unveiled at the event. For one, they are now a bit more durable and a little lighter, and they are now more expensive, with the Galaxy Z Fold 6 now starting at $1,899 and the Z Flip 6 at $1099.

Speaking of durability, they are now more resistant to drops, have more durable inner flexible glasses, and are now rated IP48 on paper compared to their previous IPX8 rating.

Perhaps the most important update about these phones that users would love is the fact that the Flip 6 now comes with a bigger 4,000mAh battery and a vapor cooling chamber, a first for the Flip series. The Fold 6, on the other hand, now starts at 512GB for memory rather than 256GB, which makes some sense if the price is going to be increased.

They also both now feature 12GB of RAM as the base model instead of 8GB and will have all of the Galaxy AI features present in the S24 series.

Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra and Galaxy Watch 7

This year, Samsung decided to bring up the Galaxy Watch Ultra which starts at $649.99 as a replacement for the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro, making it the new premium smartwatch in Samsung's lineup.

You could say that Samsung is borrowing a leaf from Apple's playbook, as the features of the Galaxy Watch Ultra are similar to those of the Apple Watch Ultra. It comes with 10ATM of water resistance, an IP68 rating, a titanium case, and a sapphire crystal lens.

It is primed for the outdoor athlete as it has a brighter screen (up to 3000 nits), new straps, and a new orange Quick Button that provides shortcuts to the workout app, flashlight, water lock, and some other options.

On the other hand, the Galaxy Watch 7 which now starts at $299.99, did not have any major changes except for new strap colors. It has the same hardware and software updates as the Galaxy Watch Ultra.

It comes with a bioactive sensor that monitors your heart health with improved heart rate tracking, an accelerometer to track walking and running without pressing a button, and an infrared sensor that offers you regular readings of your skin temperature while you sleep.

In terms of design, it comes in three colors: black, silver, and gold, all crafted with titanium, offering 10ATM of water resistance and having an IP68 rating.
