Samsung has launched a 3D map view feature for smart homes

Samsung today confirmed that it has launched a 3D map view feature for smart homes, which was showcased at CES 2024.

This map view feature converts real floor plans in your home to virtual 3D images in the SmartThings app and allows you to make changes to elements such as lighting, temperature, air quality, and energy consumption right from your mobile device at any place and time.

The essence of the Map View feature is to solve the problem of having to control multiple connected devices for multiple appliances in your home. It promotes smart home management by allowing you to operate your home with ease right from the app and letting you get updates in real-time as more devices are connected.

The feature is also an upgrade from the 2D model, which only worked for homes where the floor plan was provided. Now, it collaborates with "Spatial AI" on Samsung devices to measure and map your home’s layout, making it easier for you to understand the shape and spatial conditions of your home on 3D maps.

Right now, the 3D map view feature is only available for homes, although Samsung has promised that it is working hard to collaborate with construction companies to expand the feature to office spaces and apartments.

Once these moves are finalized, the electronics giant will be able to provide added functionality to its over 1 billion customers globally per data from BankMyCell, and all things being equal could see its revenue improve from the $194 billion that it made last year, per data from Statista.
