Samsung’s smartphone sales grew 9% year on year in April 2022, capturing 24% of the global smartphone market, making it the highest monthly market share for the South Korean electronics giant since April 2017, according to Counterpoint Research.
The company’s sales grew despite the global smartphone sales declining 8% year on year during the same period, one of the only few brands to grow against the market decline.
As a result, Samsung continues to lead the global smartphone market sales for the third consecutive month in 2022. The company also became the No.1 brand in the Indian market in April 2022 for the first time since August 2020.
Analysts expect Samsung to retain its leadership position in the global smartphone market in Q2 2022. For example, the company dominated the foldables market with over 80% share last year and is currently the undisputed leader in terms of design, marketing, and shipments.
But Samsung would need to bring down the prices of its foldable phones to gain a competitive advantage over other brands such as Huawei, Xiaomi, vivo, and OPPO.
