Snapchat now has a native iPad app
The year has been packed for Apple with the company making headlines several times this year. On September 9, we expect many releases from the Cupertino giant. From their iPhone 16 and Apple Watch Series lineup to several software upgrades for their devices, including the iPad. But, right before the launch event, Snapchat quietly released something for iPad users.
Despite the iPad existing longer than the app, the app never had a native iPad version. You could run the iPhone app on the iPad, but, this wasn't an especially wonderful experience as the app was not optimized properly.
This meant you had unnecessarily huge black spaces at the sides and awkwardly spaced icons and images. With there being a native app, all these inconveniences have been fixed, allowing you to experience the app in all its glory but on a much bigger screen.
It should be noted, however, that the app forces you to use it in portrait mode as it does not seem to support landscape. Hopefully, this will eventually get updated and fixed. But, putting that aside, you can enjoy the 9th most popular social media platform – according to Statista, properly fitted to a bigger screen.
This also gives it a bit of an edge over other social media platforms, like Instagram, that are yet to create a native iPad version for reasons best known to them. According to Apple Insider, the reason Instagram developers have not developed a native iPad app is that they believe it is not a big enough market yet.
With a growing number of native iPad apps and Snapchat following suit, it stands to reason that the iPad market is slowly growing. There are also a lot of changes to be made to the iPadOS 18 so, with time, we might expect more apps to come to iPad users.
