Sony's PlayStation 5 "Slim" Launches in India on April 5
It has sold more than 50 million since its initial launch in November 2020.
Sony is rolling out the PlayStation 5 Slim in India on April 5, 2024, bringing the lighter and more compact version of its highly popular gaming console to the Indian market.
It has sold more than 50 million since its initial launch in November 2020.
With prices starting at Rs 44,990 ($539) for the digital version and Rs 54,990 ($658) for the disc version, the PS5 Slim is designed to fit better in your living space and budget.
India's gaming market is booming, with estimates suggesting there are over 400 million gamers in the country as of 2023, contributing to its rapidly growing industry valued at over $3.1 billion. The original PlayStation 5's launch saw incredible demand in India with more than 1 million sales in 2021.
The PlayStation 5 Slim is about 25% lighter and takes up 30% less space than its predecessor, without compromising on performance. It offers the same hardware as the original PS5, including 1TB of internal storage expandable via external SSDs. This launch is significant not just for its hardware but for its timing, especially as the Indian gaming scene continues to witness a high growth rate.
PlayStation 5 Slim caters to both disc and digital game lovers, featuring two USB-C ports for better connectivity. The design allows for a conversion from a disc to a disc-less version by changing the side panel, although Sony has yet to detail the availability of this add-on.
Sony's move to introduce the PlayStation 5 Slim in India shows its strong understanding of the market's needs: high-performance gaming in a more accessible, aesthetically pleasing package.
