South African healthtech startup LocumBase bags new funding

LocumBase, a South Africa-based online medical booking startup has raised undisclosed funding in its financing round from Grindstones Ventures, to expand its offering.

• With this funding, the healthtech startup prepares for exponential growth, it says. Founded in 2016, LocumBase connects freelance medical professionals and practices in South Africa to ease the locum-finding process.
• Zule Vuuren, LocumBase founder says primary practitioners need to rest in order to adequately cater to their patients. Hence they need a frictionless process of finding a temporary team and the best locum. This is where LocumBase comes in, the founder adds.
• The healthtech startup will begin to scale with the funding received. The funding came to the startup for participating in the Grindstone Accelerator programme and emerging the winner last year.
• LocumBase aims to scale across South Africa and expand to new geographies by the end of 2023. It looks to tap into industries where its software will improve workforce efficiency and employment opportunities. Catherine Young, managing partner at Grindstone Ventures says the firm is excited to back LocumBase in disrupting the traditional way of allocating locums to medical practices.
