Spotify introduces new remix features to compete with sped-up TikTok tunes
Spotify's paid subscribers will speed up, mash up, and edit tracks from their favorite artists using the new remix features.
Streaming giant Spotify says it is working on new remix features that will allow paid subscribers to speed up, mash-up, and edit tracks from their favourite artists, which could then be saved for repeat listening.
Users will be able to adjust the tempo of the songs they listen to, similar to music modifications on TikTok, popularized by teens and young adults on the platform.
Spotify won't share the user-generated remixes on third-party services, so artists can receive royalties or other compensation for their work, without having to release multiple versions of their music on the platform.
The streaming giant, which boasts over 602 million monthly active users, including 236 million paying subscribers worldwide, according to company data, plans to make the basic new features available to users on the standard Spotify Premium subscription that starts at $10.99.
It will then make the advanced features available on the more expensive “Supremium” tier, which is also expected to feature Spotify HiFi – its lossless audio feature.
It's not entirely a novel idea as TikTok already has a similar remix feature that has added to its popularity among social media users.
