Spotify Launches Personalized AI Playlists
Spotify launched a beta version of AI playlists on Monday, allowing users to generate a playlist based on written AI prompts.
It is coming to users on Android and iOS devices in the UK and Australia, while the streaming giant will improve on it in the coming months before making it available globally.
Spotify has over 574 million monthly active listeners and boasts over 226 million dedicated subscribers in more than 180 countries globally, per data from The Social Shepherd.
With the fusion of AI, users can now access a wider variety of custom playlists apart from the traditional genre custom requests, and the prompts can reference all sorts of things, like places, animals, activities, movie characters, colors, or emojis.
The streaming giant believes that the best playlists are generated using prompts that contain genres, moods, artists, and decades. However, it has also considered users’ tastes to customize the playlists it makes with the feature.
If you are in the UK or Australia, you can access this feature by clicking on the "Your Library" tab in the Spotify app. On tapping on the plus button (+) at the top right of your screen, a pop-up menu will appear showing the AI playlist as a new option alongside the existing "Playlist" and "Blend" options.
Don't worry if you can’t think of any prompts to try. Spotify can offer prompt suggestions to help you get started. To save an AI playlist, tap the "Create" button to add it to your library.
