In a time when spam calls and cyber scams are becoming more common, it's more important than ever to have secure and reliable communication. That’s exactly what Telecom Egypt, the country’s top telecom provider, is focusing on with its new partnership with Truecaller, a known leader in caller ID and spam detection.

Truecaller has already built a strong reputation for filtering out unwanted calls, with millions of users across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). In 2024 alone, Egypt reportedly gained over 1 million new Truecaller users, making it one of the company’s fastest-growing markets outside of India. According to Truecaller, its solutions are currently used by over 2,500 businesses worldwide.

The goal of this partnership is simple: make communication easier and safer for Telecom Egypt's customers. With the integration of these features, users will be able to identify calls more clearly and avoid unwanted or potentially harmful communications. This means fewer interruptions and a smoother, less stressful mobile experience.

Egypt sells its stake in Telecom Egypt
To raise money to finance some of its debt obligations, the Egyptian government has successfully sold a 9.5% stake in state-controlled Telecom Egypt, generating 3.75 billion Egyptian pounds ($121.6 million) in revenue. Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly promised to sell $2 billion worth of assets by the end

With this partnership, Telecom Egypt's over 16.9 million mobile customers, as reported in 2023, stand to benefit from this new capability, gaining more control over who can reach them.

This move isn’t just about stopping spam—it's part of a bigger trend where telecom companies around the world are partnering with tech firms to improve security and trust. For example, in 2024, Truecaller also teamed up with Nawy, a prop-tech platform in Africa, to improve communication safety for its users.

Looking to the future, the collaboration between Telecom Egypt and Truecaller could set a new standard for secure communication in the region. As technology keeps evolving, partnerships like this will help meet the changing needs of users while keeping their trust intact.

In the end, this partnership is a step forward in the fight against scams, showing that Telecom Egypt is serious about offering safer communication for its customers.
