Telegram lets creators share paid content to channels
You can now monetize your content blending cryptocurrency and digital engagement.
Telegram has just rolled out a feature that lets creators share paid content through its platform, making it possible for you to directly support your favorite content creators on Telegram, or get support yourself as a content creator.
Last month, Telegram introduced "Stars," its in-app digital currency. Initially designed to pay for digital goods from bots and mini-apps, Stars has quickly evolved into a versatile tool within the Telegram ecosystem, which now encompasses unlocking paid content on channels.
For instance, if you follow a cooking channel that just posted an exclusive recipe. With Telegram's new update, you can use Stars to access this premium content. It’s a straightforward way for creators to monetize their work and for users to enjoy unique content without leaving the app.
Telegram also allows channel owners to convert these Stars into Toncoin, a cryptocurrency running on The Open Network (TON) blockchain. This means creators can transform their Stars into real-world value, trading Toncoin on various exchanges or even cashing out into their bank accounts.
For users, earning Stars has its perks too. Besides unlocking content, Stars can be used to get discounts on ads, helping channels promote themselves more effectively.
Telegram's recent updates don't stop there. They’ve added a handy Mini App bar, making it easier to access mini-apps without constant reloading. Plus, new features for discovering stories through hashtags and location tags make the app more engaging and user-friendly.
