The top 5 PC vendors globally (by market share) for 2024
Total shipments reached 262.7 million units, as the Techloy chart shows.
In a year marked by uncertainty, the global PC market (including Desktops, Notebooks, and Workstations) managed a modest recovery in 2024, buoyed by regional demand spikes and a cautious shift toward new technologies like AI PCs. While challenges like geopolitical tensions and tight budgets lingered, the industry found pockets of resilience, particularly in the fourth quarter, thanks to strategic factors that offset broader headwinds.
Preliminary data from IDC shows that the global PC market managed to eke out a 1% increase year-over-year, with total shipments reaching 262.7 million units, as the Techloy chart below shows.
For the full year, Lenovo remained the top vendor, shipping 61.8 million PCs for a 23.5% share, up 4.7% from 2023. HP followed with 53 million units, holding steady with a 0.1% increase. Meanwhile, Apple and ASUS emerged as growth leaders, with Apple shipping 22.9 million units (up 4.5%) driven by demand for its high-end devices and ASUS delivering 17.9 million units (up 6.4%). Dell, on the other hand, struggled to keep pace and faced a 2.2% decline, shipping 39.1 million units. Smaller vendors collectively struggled, declining by 2.1%.
In China, government subsidies boosted the consumer segment, while U.S. and European markets benefited from end-of-year sales promotions and enterprise upgrades ahead of the Windows 10 end-of-support deadline in October 2025. These factors were able to offset the broader economic uncertainties and softening demand in other areas.
The outlook for 2025 shows the PC market entering a pivotal period. New technologies like AI PCs present exciting opportunities, but macroeconomic concerns and evolving consumer priorities mean the path forward won’t be easy. Still, the modest recovery of 2024 offers hope for continued resilience and innovation.
