TikTok is Testing Snapchat-Like Streaks
The app you can't seem to put down might soon become even more addictive as TikTok announces it is testing streaks similar to what users are familiar with on Snapchat.
Right now, the feature is being tested with a limited group of users in select regions. If you are lucky enough to be one of the selected users and want to get a streak, you will have to DM someone for more than three days in a row. Once you achieve three consecutive days of exchanging messages, a streak badge will appear in the chat window, displaying the number of consecutive days you've chatted.
Your streak will end when neither you nor the receiver send messages in a chat within 24 hours of the last message. However, TikTok will notify you when your streak is about to end so that you can keep it going.
You can turn off these notifications through Settings > Privacy > Notifications > Streak settings. The menu also provides an option for turning off in-app streak notifications.
While there's no official confirmation from TikTok regarding a wider rollout, the feature's presence in the testing phase suggests a potential public release to its over 1.5 billion monthly active users in the near future.
That coupled with the fact that we are already seeing some users posting about the feature on social media platforms like X, it may not be too long before TikTok releases the feature officially to the public.
This wouldn't be the first time TikTok has borrowed a winning formula from another app to get users to spend more time and create more engagement on the platform. Recently in May, the social media giant announced that it was testing 60-minute video uploads in a bid to offer longer videos and rival video giant YouTube.
