Threads Launches its API for Developers

Threads has finally rolled out its eagerly anticipated API, and it’s packed with opportunities for developers to build some amazing experiences.

Mark Zuckerberg took to social media to share the exciting news: “The Threads API is now widely available and coming to more of you soon.” And this isn't just a soft launch; it’s a full-on invitation for developers to start creating.

Jesse Chen, one of the engineers behind Threads, elaborated in a blog post that the new API will allow developers to do a bunch of cool things. You can publish posts, fetch your own content, and manage replies—yes, you can hide, unhide, or respond to specific comments.

Let’s not forget the broader landscape. 2023 was a rough year for developers working with social media APIs. Platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and Reddit either restricted or completely shut down API access, leaving many developers scrambling. But Threads with the launch of its API is throwing the doors wide open for developers to build.

And it doesn’t stop there. Along with the API, Meta has also released a reference open-source app on GitHub which means you can dive right in and start playing around with the tools and functionalities that the API offers.
