How Uber is accelerating the EV ride-sharing scene in Africa
Africa has been relatively slow in embracing electric vehicles (EVs), primarily due to a lack of adequate charging infrastructure.
Data paints a stark picture of a point zero percentage number of registered EVs across the continent. South Africa, often considered the most advanced e-mobility market in Africa, boasted only around 1,000 EVs out of a staggering 12 million registered vehicles in 2022. Meanwhile, Kenya, another key African market, had around 350 EVs among its 2.2 million registered vehicles, according to Statista.
