WhatsApp Announces Major Upgrades to Improve Video Calling Experience
WhatsApp users are in for more experience as Meta has announced that it is making some improvements to WhatsApp video calls that should make them more useful for conversations with large groups of people.
This comes after Meta unveiled a series of new features, including Meta Verified for WhatsApp Business, a few days ago and support for longer voice messages in status updates on WhatsApp last month.
Now Meta has introduced on WhatsApp, a speaker spotlight, which automatically highlights the speaker and makes them appear first on-screen, and an improved screen-sharing and audio feature to make it easier for users to watch videos and movies as a group.
The tech giant has assured that users will have crisper audio for their video calls on WhatsApp, even if they have poor network connectivity or are using an older device.
Meta has also expanded the number of people on a WhatsApp video call to 32, which is a major increase from the 16-number limit WhatsApp had previously.
This new number limit serves as a significant upgrade for the WhatsApp Windows app, which previously had a limit of 16 people, and the Mac app, which previously had a limit of 8 people for video calls. The new number limit for video calls, however, does not apply to the WhatsApp mobile app because it already has the feature.
Meta has assured that the new updates will be rolling out over the next few weeks to almost 2.8 billion monthly active users globally, per data from Statista.
