WhatsApp Rolls out a New Events Feature for Group Chats

Coordinating events within WhatsApp is quite demanding, as it often involves sending individual messages and keeping separate reminders, all with the potential for miscommunications.

This is about to change as WhatsApp rolls out a new "Events" feature, taking a page out of platforms like Teams, to help you schedule group meetings on WhatsApp within the familiar chat environment.

The "Event Creation" tool will serve as a central hub where all event details can be found allowing you to make group plans and organize meetings and gatherings in the simplest way possible.

You can find the "Event Creation" tool within your group chat settings. Once you click it, you will be able to input important details such as the event name, a brief description, a date, and an optional location. The feature will also allow you to specify whether the event will include a voice or video call, catering to both in-person and virtual gatherings.

As always, WhatsApp maintains that all events created using this feature are protected by its end-to-end encryption protocol, making sure that only participants have access to the event details and conversations.

The feature has been made accessible to beta testers on Android devices running version 2.24 14.9 of the app; however, users can expect to get the new feature on WhatsApp on their iOS and Android devices in the coming weeks.

On a separate note, WhatsApp Beta earlier introduced a redesigned status updates preview for Android users, which, if officially released, will make their scrolling much more intuitive.
