Apple Launches New MacBook Air Models With the M3 Chip
Initially debuting in the iMac desktop and MacBook Pro laptops last October, Apple is now bringing its most advanced M3 silicon chips to its MacBook Air models. This move marks a significant advancement for the MacBook Air lineup, bringing enhanced performance and capabilities to the iconic laptops.
While maintaining the familiar design of earlier models, the new MacBook Air laptops boast sharper 1080p webcams, improved Wi-Fi support for faster connectivity, and an impressive battery life of up to 18 hours. Additionally, the inclusion of the latest M3 chip enables users to connect up to two external displays, a notable enhancement from previous configurations.
With prices starting at $1,099 for the 13-inch model and $1,299 for the 15-inch variant, these new MacBook Air laptops are now available for order, with retail availability beginning on March 8th.
WhatsApp Set to Introduce Third-Party Chats
WhatsApp is on the verge of rolling out a groundbreaking feature that could reshape how users interact with the platform.
Recent findings by WABetaInfo suggest that the messaging platform is laying the groundwork for third-party chats, potentially allowing users to connect with other platforms like Signal or Telegram. This move aligns with Europe's Digital Markets Act, mandating interoperability among messaging services.
With the potential of exposure to security risks, like data vulnerabilities and spam, users will have the option to opt out of third-party chats, giving them more control and flexibility over their messaging experience. Meanwhile, reports suggest that third-party chats could be exclusive to European users due to legal obligations from the European DMA.
Apple Ships iOS 17.4 With Third-Party Accessibility and More
Apple has just released iOS 17.4, marking a significant milestone in the evolution of its operating system for iPhones and enhancing the overall experience with its devices.
Primarily aimed at complying with the Digital Markets Act in the European Union, this release introduces support for third-party app stores, expanded app analytics, and alternative payment options. This comes with notable updates including the ability for developers to distribute iOS apps through alternative app marketplaces, utilize different browser engines, and submit requests for interoperability. Enhanced safety measures such as notarization for apps, app installation sheets, and additional malware protections aim to safeguard users venturing beyond the confines of the App Store.
Additionally, iOS 17.4 introduces various general features like Apple Cash virtual card numbers, new emojis, improvements to Apple Music and Podcasts, enhanced security measures including iMessage post-quantum cryptography, and numerous bug fixes
OpenAI Unveils Read Aloud Feature for ChatGPT on iPhone and iPad
In a recent update, OpenAI has unveiled an exciting addition to its official ChatGPT app for iPhone and iPad, the Read Aloud feature, to complement its existing Voice Chat feature.
This new functionality allows users to have the chatbot read responses out loud in one of five voice options. Users can also control playback options, including play, pause, and rewind.
With support for 37 languages and automatic language detection, Read Aloud aims to enhance accessibility for individuals with visual impairments or reading difficulties, such as dyslexia. Additionally, OpenAI anticipates that the feature will enhance engagement by personalizing interactions and facilitating language learning.
Google Pixel Phones May Soon Introduce Satellite SOS Feature
Google could be following in Apple's footsteps by introducing satellite SOS connectivity to its Pixel phones. This feature enables users to send emergency messages and share their location even without a cellular or Wi-Fi connection, potentially aiding those stranded in remote locations.
Recent findings by 9to5Google reveal a "Satellite SOS" option appearing in the Safety & emergency settings of Pixel phones. While currently inactive, this indicates Google's preparations to implement satellite connectivity on the Pixel series.
Although specialized hardware for satellite connectivity, such as chipsets and antennas is currently absent in existing Pixel models, it remains to be seen if this feature will debut on the upcoming Google Pixel 9 with the possibility of extending to other Android smartphones in the future.
Truecaller Launches Call Recording for Premium Users in India
Following its U.S. launch, Truecaller, a leading caller identification service, has launched its call recording and transcription features for its premium users in India, its largest market.
But unlike its implementation in the U.S., receivers won't hear a beep sound when recording begins, enhancing user experience, thanks to regulatory differences. Priced at ₹79 ($0.95) per month or ₹529 per year ($6.38), Truecaller is looking to incentivise its premium plan adoption with this feature.
On Android, Truecaller's dialer displays a dedicated recording button, while on iOS, users need to initiate the call, access the "Record a call" feature within the Truecaller app, and manually merge the calls to commence recording due to Apple's CallKit restrictions.
